Default No charges against Sheriff Joe.

    Sooner State Pawn
And another political witch hunt bites the dust.

Federal authorities said Friday that they're closing their abuse-of-power investigation into a sheriff in Arizona without filing charges against him.

Authorities were investigating America's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, for his part in failed public corruption cases against officials who were odds with him. Arpaio brought cases against a judge and two county officials in 2009.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Birmingham Scheel released a statement saying her office "is closing its investigation into allegations of criminal conduct" by current and former members of the sheriff's and county attorney's offices.

Getting close to the election and the electorate has short memories. Move along, nothing to see here!

I wonder what it would take to get Sheriff Joe Arpaio to move to OKC and run for county sheriff here?

    Seriously - what?

Unfortunately he will always be the sheriff of MCSO or at least live there the remainder of his life. He has lived in that area since he was the head of the DEA office in AZ. He is definitely the kind of cop/boss you want on your side and having your back.

Why does he get so much publicity? Because he make inmates sleep outside and were pink underwear. I dont understand the press and hype. Lots of sheriffs do just as good a job without bringing all the attention on their office.

I don't think we need his brand of "tough guy" law enforcement if it includes "sick outs" by deputies assigned to the courthouse when you wanted to send a judge a "message".

On the other hand, maybe he could convince Steven Seagal to drive an APC through someone's house over maybe that guy having fighting roosters inside! FUN!

Because he is bucking the feds and doing his job when they do not want him to.

^^This, and the productive (and voting) citizens of Maricopa County love him.

He certainly does the job well. And not like other Sheriffs or Chiefs of police. It's not just pink boxers, it's an entire way of life for the lucky folks that choose to stay with him. There are no free rides and easy times in his jail. He makes jail feel like jail and not the "easy times" other establishments allow. Bravo, the witch hunt is over.

His jail is also the model of efficiency, costing the taxpayers substantially less per incarceree (is that a word?) than other major city/county hoosegows. "Visitors" work, produce goods & food, learn trades & skills and even earn a little $. His system should be adopted everywhere, but the ACLU and-like minded outfits would have a hissy. (As an aside, would be good if all state prisons operated the way Burl Cain runs his.)

I agree. I heard he would not let the incarceree's (let's say it's word cause it's cool) have coffee because it had no nutritional value.

Because the .gov has declared war on Arizona and he's saying "bring it bitches".

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I just think he garners too much un-needed attention. I cant argue with the voters and im all for using inmates for workcrews(non violent types).

Underwear, sleeping in tents stuff is a non issue for me. Just seems odd, that out of all the counties in the U.S. He's the only sheriff that garners national press.

For me, it seems he has a problem with the rule of law in general. All I hear on this board is about how cool Sheriff Joe is for running the awesomest county jail in America. Nobody wants to talk about how officials who criticized him publicly ended up being the targets of "corruption" investigations, including the county judge who ended up on the wrong end of a "sick out" by MCSD deputies. The county prosecutor (I guess the AZ version of a DA) got disbarred by the state supreme court over the affair, from what I read.

And the Steven Seagal driving the APC stunt? Do people actually think that was funny?

Look, I'm no J.B. Books, here, but holding Arpaio up as some sort of model sheriff seems a bit short sighted.
