Looking into a new rifle chambered in either .270 win or .270 wsm.

What are your opinions on each cartridge and what rifle would you get?

Not sure on budget, but I would prefer the rifle to be sub $700 and more likely closer to $500

to me i think they are both great guns ammo for the 270 sure would be cheaper and easier to find them 270 wsm and you would have more makes and models to chose from by getting a 270 and far as what make and model to get i would just go shopping and get my hands on them get one thats in my price range and feels good in by hands.

The deer you shoot won't know the difference between the two. The budget you suggested leans more toward the .270 Win. Go buy a savage with accutrigger in .270Win and save yourself some cash, both up front in the cost of the rifle and in the long run because of the price and availability of .270Win ammo. Go .270WSM if you want some extra speed, more expensive ammo and a tad more recoil.

I'm not too worried with ammo cost as I will more than likely reload which ever I choose.

As far as rifles I was hoping to get opinions on Ruger American rifles, different models of Rem 700, Weatherby, etc etc.

My current rifle is an old Ruger M77 in .284 that I want to put away. I'm finding out it s more and more rare making me not want to take it in the field. My dad and brother both have Rem 700s that I like shooting.

Savage has a new package gun out now that comes with a Nikon Prostaff scope, better scope than a lot of package guns comes with. If you want a certain caliber then go for it, but you might want to try out some different rounds before you buy if you're not sure. I personally don't like the extra recoil of a 270 versus something like a 243. Just my opinion though

rem 700 is hard to beat far as i am concerned on the best rifle there is. but a new one will not be that 500 dollar range

Also if you're going to buy a new rifle you might try Academy, they have some of the best prices I have seen anywhere. Again, just my opinion, if you have a local shop you deal with thats even better!

Looking online at academy it looks like they sell a Rem 700 in .270 win no scope for $379. I haven't found prices yet as I haven't looked much for prices of a .270 wsm.

School me on the differences of the Rem 700 a/b/cdl rifles and sps etc etc.

recommend the standard 270...it will do it all...you're on the right track with the new ruger...dont have one but looked em over and it looks good for the money....savage is a "best buy" for the money....try sooner state pawn...they have a deal where you buy new online-have it shipped to them as a retailer for 10.00 over cost...its on their website...a 7mm-08 is another good round to consider

Thanks Okie. I haven't forgot about your offer on the rifle. I think she'll be my safe queen though.

Do the a/b/c 700s all use the same barrel or are some using a heavy barrel?

Looking on my phone at Rems website is no fun. Haven't had tons of time to look on the computer at them.

Thanks everyone for the info. Keep it coming.

I thought the Ruger American had a neat looking stock on it when I saws them on Academy's website. I like the forend/hand grip on it. I just am not familiar with them or the reputation.

I wouldn't get rid of it either!

Here's the Gunblast review on the Ruger American. His reviews have proven to be spot on.

I know some don't like the new X-Mark trigger but my 700 SPS came with one which I turned down quite a bit and it isn't too bad now. Not sure if the newer A/B/CDL's come with this trigger or not; I also have older ADL's in 22-250 & 243. I got the 243 used and had to drop a Timney trigger ($130) in it because trigger in it was HORRIBLE and I'm no gunsmith . The trigger in my 22-250, which is pretty much a twin to the 243 is really decent from get go though; it will do 3/4 moa off sticks (sitting) at 100 yards. Hard to beat the Rem 700!
