Default Smoking your cloths for scent control

    Sooner State Pawn
Ok guys, anyone else do this?
I use a scent smoker designed for this, it's kind of like a modified bee smoker. I've been doing it for a few years now and have seen decent results. I take a scent free shower then Use the smoker to smoke my body down and my cloths. A lot of times I'll put my cloths in a huge zip lock bag and fill it wil smoke after words for transport.
Smoke is a natural cover scent and is also a natural anti bacterial. It actually kills bacteria, and bacteria is what causes human odor. Plus you don't have to do it every day, we all know after a trip to the bar how long smoke will stay on you and your cloths lol
Just so happened yesterday evening the neighboring property had dozed up brush and was burning them all day... Perfect setup

I believe I've talked about it on here before, just interested if anyone has tried it?

I used to put my clothes in a bag with cedar branches. However, that was just my first season out. Since then, I do nothing special and never have a problem getting a nice buck and my pick of dozens of does. I only hunt primative and rifle season though.

Wood smoke contains formaldehyde... While it may not be an "antibiotic", it is a preservative... Which inhibits bacteria growth.

No I dont smoke up before i hunt. I do try to rub down real good with some cedars branches or whatever else I can find with a nautural smell on it. Then I tear off some branches in put them in my pockets. When I get up my tree I rub down again and then place the branches in various place on my stand. Seems to work real good.

I have been around several fires and come home stinking to high heaven and haven't ever thought about going to set in the deer stand. Come to think of it, after a long day of sweating it out in the 105 degree heat, I am not sure my deodorant even is still working.

I wash my clothes with silver. It's a natural antibacterial. I bathe with tricoslan and wear merino wool base layers. No scent is the best scent.

Biologist say deer have a better sense of smell than dogs do, and dogs have been known to sniff out drugs that have been sealed in several layers of plastic and submerged inside a tank of diesel. If deer really do have a better sense of smell than dogs, it is difficult for me to believe that ANYTHING we do, short of being downwind, will defeat or confuse a deer's sense of smell.

There are a lot of plants/woods in nature you can burn for such an antimicrobial application. Les Stroud and Cody Lundin have both published works on it. It's even been used as a trench foot treatment in history. Though, I'm a fan of scent-away. Scentless soap, dryer sheets, field spray. I don't worry about the wind either.

I've always (like for the last 20 yrs) just kept my hunting clothes in a trash bag with a few Fresh Earth wafers. Everything smells like dirt when you put it on. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I've been extremely close to a lot of deer.

This right here is a good thought.
I've watched some blood hound work, lots of test using every non scent spray, carbon cloths, silver and even my scent smoker. Blood hound tracked/trailed right to them every time. I've watched a piece where it showed one find something submerged 8' under water!!!
They say a deers nose is about 40x more powerful that a blood hound... Ya good luck fooling it right?
But with the dog they give it something to find, in that case he used his son. He let him smell one of his sons shirts then sent him to find the boy. With deer they have to pick the scent out of the air and they don't know what they are "smelling" for. Something as over powering as smoke might be enough to get you buy???
