    Default Armor Piercing Bullets?

    Sooner State Pawn
So I see that the W.H. want's to ban the manufacturing, importation, sale, and possession of armor piercing bullets. Does this mean that all of the cheap Russian ammo and other mil surp ammo will be banned? (Tula, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, Monarch, etc). I was under the impression that although these bullets contain steel, they are not armor piercing. Is this correct?

Most states already ban such evil bullets. But it all depends on your definition of armor. My grandpa's 30-06 will go through quite a lot with regular ammo.

What about green tipped 5.56? I understood that was armor piercing.

Most rifle loadings will penetrate level III-A or below body armor. That is what scares me. What is the definition of 'armor piercing'?

The feds only restrict armor piercing handgun ammunition. It is defined as:

    18 U.S.C., § 921(a)(17)(B)

A projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or

A full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.

Green tip 5.56mm ammo (M855) is NOT armor piercing. It only has a mild steel tip. The back 2/3rds of the projectile is lead.

    M855

Black tip 5.56mm (M995) has a hard tungsten core and is an armor piercing round.
