Default Tikka T3 or Browning A-Bolt?

    Sooner State Pawn
I recently sold off my Remington 770 because the rough bolt was driving me nuts. I'm now trying to decide between a Browning A-Bolt or Tikka T3. I've handled a Tikka before and had dreams about the smooth action on it, but I haven't handled a A-Bolt, only know that Browning has an excellent reputation. Any opinions out there?

    Thanks

Every Tikka I have shot has been extremely accurate. I don't have to talk about the action because you already know they glide like butta. They are basically an economy model Sako. The synthetic models are super light and do kick considerably. I highly suggest a limbsaver pad.

My only two gripes about them are the plastic bolt shroud (replaceable) and two position safety that won't allow the bolt to be opened without putting it in the fire position.

I have had both, and IMHO the T3 is the best rifle out there for under $1000. If you go with Browning, you might call Freedom Pawn here in OKC. Just left there and they have a beautiful Browning in a 30/06 w/Leupold scope, they are asking $699. You might be able to get them to knock off $100. Their number is 405-470-1000. Good luck

A browning abolt is the exact same way. I own both and both are fine rifles. But I seem to buy more Brownings as I appreciate the removable metal mags and the finer wood. And the stouter bolts with the gas ports in them (not around them). I handload for everything i shoot and those little things add up to me. Your bolt lift is less on an abolt so it allows mounting bigger objective scopes a touch lower. Although the tikka comes with a std set of 1" rings that fit the dovetail on the reciver. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

While Tikka isn't quite as nice as a Sako, but man they're a close second

Both are good guns. But, the Tikka will shoot better. DO replace the pad with a LimbSaver. I would probably replace the scope rings with a set of steel ones.

I recently picked up a Tikka T3 lite in .308. I replaced the buttpad with a Limbsaver and used DNZ medium rings/base to mount up a Vortex Viper HS-LR 4-16x50

Never shot a Tikka, but I love my Browning. Something about a Browning just seems to be a little nicer than others.

I think either will serve you well.
I'd go with whichever one I got the best deal on, configured how I want.
