I have a double barrel 20 gauge shotgun my dad gave to me that was his grandfathers, and I was wondering if anybody had any way of checking value(not going to sell, just curiosity) for it?
JC Higgins Model 101.7
Has Model 311A on the right side, assuming that means made by Stevens?
Has a circled G on the bottom side of the barrels, which from what I have read places it around 1953. Thanks for any further info!

It's a Savage\Stevens 311. I love 'em and have one in all of the chamberings. You're correct in that they were made by Savage for Sears but the Savage will always command a little more than the Higgins. I know, it doesn't make sense being that they are the same gun.

Yours looks to be in nice shape and has retained most of the case hardening color. These shotguns were the "workin' man's double" so most of them have seen better days. Keep a nice coating of oil on it and it will keep looking purdy.

Thanks for the info! I need to do a detail cleaning on it pretty soon. Get it coated and cleaned up and leave it alone. I don't ever really shoot it much and want to keep it as nice as possible. My pops used to squirrel hunt with it. It stayed loaded for years as a home defense gun, but now that I bought a 590A1, it is relinquished to 'safe queen' status. :)

I have a real soft spot for those things. Here's a shortened, nickel-plated 12, a .410, and a "survivor" 20. Currently restoring a 16.

I shopped for the .410 for fifteen years before I found one at a price I could live with.
