Im betting that you had a"trigger job "performed on it by someone who had no idea of what they were doing. They either have put an incorrect engagement angle on the sear or they have changed the sear engagement notch on the hammer. or both.

A quality 1911 that is in-spec and properly cleaned and lubricated will run many thousands of rounds trouble free. It is prudent every so many rounds to change out the recoil spring. Likewise it is a good idea to take it down to the bare frame about once a year IF it is being heavily used or regularly carried.

From many years of dealing with 1911's, I would suspect that someone not sufficiently qualified has been inside your pistol. Consider sending it back to Springfield Armory, if you bought it originally. Even if you didn't, it may end up back at SA because several of the parts are specific to a SA EMP only.
