No longer searching---Youth deer rifle

I've got a 9 year old who thinks he wants to get into deer hunting this year. Not sure how interested he really is, so looking for a budget friendly option until I can better gauge his long-term interest.

We're looking for a bolt action, compact/youth/beginner's rifle. Thinking about something along the line of a Ruger American Compact in .243, 6.5 Creedmoore or 7mm-08.
