I've said it before, but my personal opinion has changed over the past decade. Mostly due to my wife's unexplainable headache. Treatment took us to many places, include the Mayo Clinic and the variety of prescription drugs they rotated her through did some scary things. And few gave her any relief. Everything from hallucinations to emotional instability to just being really high, all the time. From beta blockers to everything short of antipsychotics, she probably tried it. One anti-seizure (i believe it was) drug had her pretty high most of the time, but had the odd side effect of making the thought of food unappetizing to the point of nausea. She lost nearly 30lbs while on it, which wasn't a healthy thing. At one point a MD (with hospital privileges and all) in Tennessee prescribed the pill form of MJ. It didn't really help much either and came with it's own issues. The pill is designed so that you can't really cut it in half, so you can't easily take a smaller dosage. But if it was regular MJ, she could have... Anyway, the only thing that has really given her much relief is alcohol. Now, the other side of all of this is that when our son was born, his birth mother was addicted to opioids. Her addiction started, in part, when a doctor prescribed them to her. If you've never seen an infant detox, well, it's something that is almost beyond words. Yes, there will be issues, but we have those already. But i'll never go back to believing that a drug must be better simply because it comes from a pharmacy.
