During Prohibition, moonshiners souped up their cars in order to evade the Police as they went to sell their product. A direct result of this was the sport of NASCAR (multi billion dollar industry). Some of the second and tertiary effects of prohibition were good, reduction in consumption of booze by almost 1/3 on a permanent basis from pre-prohibition levels. It also popularized tequila in the United States, ended the great sausage party, Speakeasies were integrated with both men and women, allowing the female gender to join the party for the first time. Bars without women are depressing and scary in one way or another. created cocktail hour and cocktail parties and the demand for barware and all the other terms and practices and amenities for drinking at home and entertaining at home with cocktails, who doesn't enjoy a good cocktail party?
No, I fully appreciate your point Dave, just thought I might toss in s bit of levity this morning.

Never heard of alcademics, but it sounds like like something that could have run in Modern Drunkard Magazine.

Probably not going to happen.
it is feasible to seize assets, but not without a long, complex process that would require Mexico's cooperation. Zweiback explained: "The assets frozen would be pursuant to international treaty initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice. After issuance of an order for seizure in Mexico, the funds would be frozen and processed in Mexico through the government. The seized assets would be shared between the countries, which is in exchange for the seizing country's cooperation and the remaining funds then returned to the U.S. The U.S. funds would be placed in the general treasury and could then be allocated for a specific purpose or by Congressional mandate used for a specific purpose."

It's not drug kingpins that suffer civil forfeiture it's average citizens caught committing other crimes like misdemeanor Marijuana possession.

Then the police use these forfeitures to pad their departmental budget so they can buy tanks and increase salaries.

Most that kingpin dough is in the de facto cartel controlled and lawless parts of Mexico.

The drugs come into the US and the vast majority of that dough goes to Mexico.

Any economic attempt to make Mexico pay for the wall will simply be returned in kind to our detriment.
