I am new to this whole NFA stuff, but am wanting to buy a can. I am currently saving (without the knowledge of my wife, so its taking awhile), My question is, besides the can and all, what does it cost to send off for the permit? Sorry this is such a no brainer question.

The tax stamp is $200.
Depending on who you buy from, they may or may not charge you to complete the paperwork. Personally, I wouldn't pay anyone to fill out the paperwork, Maj. Malfunction doesn't charge for it. If you are using a trust, then that's it, $200. If you're not, you'll have to pay for passport photos, fingerprints, etc.

Hondafire, what kind of can are you wanting (rimfire, pistol, rifle)? I am a fellow Duncanite and would be willing to let you try some of mine if you want to.

Ive turned in a form 1 to build mine, and didnt get charged for the prints but like 7 dollars for the photos. The material will cost in between $40 and $100 depending how much extra I buy and whether I go w/ stainless or aluminum. I am leaning toward stainless though so itll prolly be in the higher range. Hopefully Ill have mine for under 300 dollars total.

I would recommend Major Malfunction and doing the trust.
Maj makes everything really simple and does all the trust paperwork for you.

Hondafire,

Your total costs out of pocket will include:
-price of the can (we sell all of our suppressors at disount prices, not MSRP)
-Oklahoma state sales tax
-$200 check payable to "BATF" to pay for the "tax stamp" on your Form 4

Feel free to call me at 918-808-3661 if you'd like to talk about the process and some pricing (so that you'd know how much you need to save).

We've got the largest inventory of silencers in the nation and the most experience with cans (I'll help you pick out the best can for your needs).

I'd also recommend taking CAR-AR-M16 up on his offer - Steve is good people and he's VERY knowledgeable when it comes to NFA stuff.

Thanks for all the info! I was realling thinking of canning either my pistol or AR, but then I had a change of mind. I think I will go with a rimfire can first so that I can afford to shoot it until the new wears off.

I'd suggest either the sparrow or the spectre, you can't go wrong with either.
Maj stocks both, so you can do a side by side fondling.

BTW: the new wore off for me about 5 shots after I got my first ,then I had to get another, and another, etc.....you get the idea.
