Same here, never an issue with signoff. I usually drop of the papers with folks at the front desk in the morning and pick them up later that afternoon.

You'll need to have the lower receiver engraved with your info or the info of your trust (if you go that route).

You'll need to make sure that you do not have the upper receiver assembled until AFTER approval. Constructive possession will get you alot more trouble than it's worth.

I am not Jeff, but I will answer your question. The marking requirements are:

The markings must be “conspicuously” placed so that they are wholly unobstructed from plain view, must be to a minimum depth of .003 inch and in a print size no smaller than 1/16 inch.

Nothing says that they have to be professionally done. You can do it with an electropencil if you want to.
