.300 Blackout. Owning an AR pistol and rifle.

I just got my 300/.221 on a rem 700 with a 16in barrel. The 556 brass is to thick for a true 300 whisper chamber. I put about a 50 rounds through my 700 556 brass cut and necked up with some 178Amax and 220 SMKs just seeing what the 1-8 barrel liked. Both shot well I am still waiting on the Major for my Cyclone to really work on some sub sonic loads. they are a blast its got me thinking about a AR upper.

I have a 300 Whisper AR -15 that I built about 7 years ago. Everything about it was custom built to run subsonics. I have a Cyclone for it. I also would like to buy or build a 16 inch bolt gun in 300 Whisper. I have never worked up a good subsonic 220gr load and would like to know what you have the best luck with.

It doesnt need to be a pistol marked lower, nor does it need to be "registered" during purchase as a pistol. The only rule is that the lower could never have a stock on it before being made into a pistol.

To answer your question... is there any issues with owning both? Absolutely not.

As long as you have a lower setup in the pistol configuration, you can safely possess both a 556 rifle and an upper with a OBL < 16.1".

I havent chronoed them yet but I started with 7.9 g of lil' Gun and 220g SMKs it shot real well just need to run them over my chroney

All I was saying is I will never own one thats not marked pistol. Why?
Cause I've got a dozen or more in my safe and sometimes I get confused
as to what goes with what. I cleared up a lot of possible problems by getting different marked receivers. They are cheap why not?

Any word when brass will be available? I'm not really into case forming.
I've got a 600 remy action that needs a barrel and this sound interesting.
also got a 7.62 marked ar lower so I could go either way.

Got asked about barrels so I figured I'd CC the response here.

The 300aacblackout.com site has a PDF for their .300 pdw 9" rifle and it mentions the msrp for just the barrel and gas system for <500$(priceee!) but I can't find it for sale anywere online.

However, noveske has been making barrels in the .300/221 variant and just announced that they will be switching their production over to .300 blackout. No word on when theyll be available.

This and the whisper are near identical. The possible ballistics will be the same.

Noveski mentions in their .300 info page that all of their .300/.221 barrels with serial numbers over...29,000 I think...will be safe to use with .300 blackout ammo, and barrels with lower serial numbers will have to be sent in to be checked first. So the two chambers must be nearly identical. And the .300/.221 chamber is just slightly different than the .300 whisper chamber, too avoid and copyright infringements and to allow the use of 5.56 brass in making .300/.221 cartridges. So ballistics for all three must be close to identical.
