I'm sorry if this has been posted... I looked but didn't see anything.

I've been drooling over AK Krinkov's for years and am aware that this falls under the SBR category. Can someone explain to me what all is required of me to legally own one of these? I'm aware of the tax stamp and the Class III license... Anything else?

You can go about this a couple ways. You can find one that is already built and have it transferred to you, or you can get a Draco pistol (or you could build a kit blah blah) and convert it to an SBR yourself.

There is no class III license. Class III refers to a tax that certain FFL holders can pay to deal in Title 2 firearms. There are three classes of SOT (special occupational tax) 1, 2 and 3.

Class I SOT is an importer of NFA items. You need an importing FFL (8 or 11).
Class II SOT is a manufacturer of NFA items. You need a manufacturing FFL (07 or 10) for this one.
Class III SOT is a dealer of NFA items. You need a dealer or manufacturing FFL for Class III (1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11).

It would be registered as a short barrel rifle and would require a $200 tax. If you do it as an individual you will need to get finger printed, have passport photos made, and have your Sheriff sign your forms. You submit the proper forms to the ATF with a $200 check or money order and wait. Once the forms are approved you can either build or take possession of the item, depending on which one of the ways you chose from my last post.

Ahh, I misunderstood what the guy told me I guess.

I'd LOVE to build something but that's outside of my area of expertise. Plus I don't have the tools.

Thanks!

What will happen then is you will find one for sale. If it is in state you can do a FTF just like you would with a normal gun. If I were the seller, after you paid me the money, I'd fill out the form 4s and give them to you to mail in with a $200 check after you did all your signature getting and finger prints. Then once they arrived back at MY place approved we'd meet up and I'd give you the gun.

If it is out of state, you will pay the seller and he will fill out some form 4s to transfer it to your dealer in Oklahoma (Maj Malfunction or someone else). You/your dealer will put in a $200 check in the packet and send it to the ATF. Once approved the out of state seller would ship the gun to your dealer with the approved form 4. Then you/your dealer would fill out another set of form 4s to transfer it to you from your dealer. You do what you need to do to complete the forms and then mail them to the ATF with another $200 check. Once it is approved your dealer will give you the gun and your approved form 4.

Ahh, okay... What's the turn-around time on something like that?
