I would like to take a few moments and introduce myself as a candidate for the Oklahoma section coordinator for USPSA.
I am Robert Carlile, Im 42 yrs old, I live in Pryor, Ok. I am married and have 1 daughter, 2 ½ yrs old. I was introduced to USPSA around 1995 by Jess Anderson. I was in law enforcement at the time and Jess took time to share about his sport. I had never been given the opportunity to run and gun and this was awesome. Unfortunately finances of a deputy sheriff and my single stage reloading press limited what I could do. Time went on and I became more involved with shooting and somewhere along the way I became addicted.
Skipping forward many years, after getting married I took a short time away from the sport to get that area of my life in order, anyone who is or has been married should understand. The really neat thing is that now my wife supports me in my addictionJ
I have always had the desire to share shooting sports with other people. As such I am a NRA certified instructor in several disciplines, I have been certified range officer, safety officer and range safety officer for many different organizations. I hold CLEET certification in several areas including SDA. I am a life member of USPSA, SCSA and also the NRA.
I have also recently founded Alpha Training Academy , we will be opening an new range in NE Oklahoma shortly, hopefully by May. We are currently in the process of obtaining USPSA and SCSA affiliations. This will provide us with more great opportunities to shoot in Oklahoma.
One last bit of information I should share is that after 7 years of law enforcement I decided to go into business for myself in 1997. I opened Mid America Machining, inc. We now have been in business for 14 years, and continue to grow each year. This growth has developed me from a hard working employee to a hard working administrator. It has taught me how to make decisions and how to take the blame for bad decisions. It has taught me that there are several ways to get to the same outcome, and if I will listen to those around me together we can reach our goals.
(Skip to here if you are bored)
SO TALKING ABOUT GOALS. I have several that I am excited about:
1. Oklahoma section championships for every division every year. I believe we can hold the highest quality matches of anyone around. Not by high match fees or huge prize tables but instead by providing challenging stages that are fun to shoot.
2. Grow USPSA in Oklahoma. This sport is something I am passionate about. Lanny Basham wrote in his book that we should set goals that are worth trading our lives for---because that is exactly what we are doing. My life is God, Family, and Country and anything that takes time from these must be worth the trade. I want my daughter to have the chance to shoot USPSA. To do that means a pro-active plan to introduce new shooters to our sport. I want a booth at the 2 large gun shows each year with videos running in the background. I want some of our membership wearing their flashy shirts and gear at the table meeting and greeting. I want dry fire demonstrations. I would love to have an airsoft demo. I think you get the point. We have the best game in town and everyone should want to play.
3. I want to grow multigun in Oklahoma. I would create a position that deals exclusively with multigun. We will have section championships and will support all the local clubs in the development of these programs.
4. I want our clubs to feel like they are a member of something. The clubs make up the section and as such they should receive the support at the state level. I want to establish and support communication between them. This will drive quality of the matches and the level of support for those matches to a new level.
5. Lastly, I want to establish a website that is owned and operated by the section, where all announcements and scores can be posted. This will not be a competitor to the forums that are already in place. This will just be a place that can share information and post match results.
There is so much more I would like to share, I am excited about this opportunity and would like your support. The election is not until mid summer and I have no idea if there will be any other candidates. I would just ask for the opportunity to serve you, the membership in Oklahoma, as the Section Coordinator for USPSA.
