I would like to take a few moments and introduce myself as a candidate for the Oklahoma section coordinator for USPSA.

I am Robert Carlile, I’m 42 yrs old, I live in Pryor, Ok. I am married and have 1 daughter, 2 ½ yrs old. I was introduced to USPSA around 1995 by Jess Anderson. I was in law enforcement at the time and Jess took time to share about his sport. I had never been given the opportunity to “run and gun” and this was awesome. Unfortunately finances of a deputy sheriff and my single stage reloading press limited what I could do. Time went on and I became more involved with shooting and somewhere along the way I became addicted.

Skipping forward many years, after getting married I took a short time away from the sport to get that area of my life in order, anyone who is or has been married should understand. The really neat thing is that now my wife supports me in my addictionJ

I have always had the desire to share shooting sports with other people. As such I am a NRA certified instructor in several disciplines, I have been certified range officer, safety officer and range safety officer for many different organizations. I hold CLEET certification in several areas including SDA. I am a life member of USPSA, SCSA and also the NRA.

I have also recently founded Alpha Training Academy , we will be opening an new range in NE Oklahoma shortly, hopefully by May. We are currently in the process of obtaining USPSA and SCSA affiliations. This will provide us with more great opportunities to shoot in Oklahoma.

One last bit of information I should share is that after 7 years of law enforcement I decided to go into business for myself in 1997. I opened Mid America Machining, inc. We now have been in business for 14 years, and continue to grow each year. This growth has developed me from a hard working employee to a hard working administrator. It has taught me how to make decisions and how to take the blame for bad decisions. It has taught me that there are several ways to get to the same outcome, and if I will listen to those around me together we can reach our goals.

(Skip to here if you are bored)

SO TALKING ABOUT GOALS. I have several that I am excited about:

1. Oklahoma section championships for every division every year. I believe we can hold the highest quality matches of anyone around. Not by high match fees or huge prize tables but instead by providing challenging stages that are fun to shoot.

2. Grow USPSA in Oklahoma. This sport is something I am passionate about. Lanny Basham wrote in his book that “we should set goals that are worth trading our lives for---because that is exactly what we are doing.” My life is God, Family, and Country and anything that takes time from these must be worth the trade. I want my daughter to have the chance to shoot USPSA. To do that means a pro-active plan to introduce new shooters to our sport. I want a booth at the 2 large gun shows each year with videos running in the background. I want some of our membership wearing their flashy shirts and gear at the table meeting and greeting. I want dry fire demonstrations. I would love to have an airsoft demo. I think you get the point. We have the best game in town and everyone should want to play.

3. I want to grow multigun in Oklahoma. I would create a position that deals exclusively with multigun. We will have section championships and will support all the local clubs in the development of these programs.

4. I want our clubs to feel like they are a member of something. The clubs make up the section and as such they should receive the support at the state level. I want to establish and support communication between them. This will drive quality of the matches and the level of support for those matches to a new level.

5. Lastly, I want to establish a website that is owned and operated by the section, where all announcements and scores can be posted. This will not be a competitor to the forums that are already in place. This will just be a place that can share information and post match results.

There is so much more I would like to share, I am excited about this opportunity and would like your support. The election is not until mid summer and I have no idea if there will be any other candidates. I would just ask for the opportunity to serve you, the membership in Oklahoma, as the Section Coordinator for USPSA.

I hope this post encourages more folks that are thinking about running for SC to join the dialogue.

Absolutely! I like that Robert tells us what his plans are for the Section. Robert is mature, honest and level-headed. Most importantly, he is an honorable competitor and a great ambassador of our sport.

I agree. I had the pleasure of taking Phil Straders advanced class along with Robert last summer. Although I only got to know him for 16 hours in the class he's got my vote at this point.

Thank you guys, and everyone who has emailed me, for your support. I have had a lot of possitive feedback, and it is very encouraging. I have never ran for office in anything and it was difficult to do so this time. My thoughts were this: USPSA and shooting in general means a lot to me, this sport is volunteer driven, so someone must be willing to give their time in support of it. Kelly has done an excellent job for many years, it is easy to throw sticks and stones at someone when we see problems, but that isn't the way to grow our sport. I value Kellys friendship and his support of me as I take this step. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as I seek and hopefully secure this position.

I believe I have the ability to identify key areas and people to grow USPSA in Oklahoma. By having a proactive plan and getting more people involved we can increase the numbers and quality of shooters in our state. We have around 350 active (paid) members in oklahoma and yet I can only identify 125 or so of them. By re-energizing those who have brought us to where we are we can gain their experience and knowledge, this can only improve our quality of stages and matches we all love to shoot. I am excited that this opportunity is in front of me.

Anyone who knows me knows that integrity is what I try to live by and I am humbled that others have recognised that. If elected I will do all I can to make everyone proud to be part of what is happening in Oklahoma. I promise that togather we will build up the shooting sports, in paticular USPSA and Steel Challenge, and provide an opportunity for new shooters to get involved.

I have a t-shirt that some of the OKC shooters designed back in 03 or 04, it says "team Oklahoma" we wore those shirts to area 4 that year. I felt as though I was a part of something and it was fun to be associated with those guys. I want others to experience that, if it means that I will loose some sleep or maybe even develop a grey hair or two:) than that is ok with me. I just want others to be included in our sport, and for our sport to continue to thrive even when the economy makes it so hard.

So again, thank you..... for the kind words..... for your support..... but mostly for your help and all that you guys do to make this sport happen.

SEE YOU ON THE RANGE!!!!!

Hey Robert! Great to see you on here. You have some great ideas for the section I'm glad you're running. Is Mitch your running mate?

AFAIK Jessie, there are no running mates for any of the offices for USPSA. But, to answer your question, no I am not Robert's running mate.

I merely posted his email here. He is a man of character, integrity and experience. These are important traits for our new Section Coordinator.

Robert has my vote as well.

On another note, Robert made some excellent steel targets and target stands for me about seven years ago and they've held up all these years.
