So I'm looking at a 14.5" barrel

Can you guys explain why on earth having a "pinned" 14.5" barrel is so great?
With my 16", I can have different flash hiders, golf ball launchers, suppressors and other goodies.
With that 14.5 your stuck unless you go the SBR route.
That little 1.5" difference doesn't amount to much and if it hangs on your equipment, learn to hold you gun differently.
Its kind of like the guys that used to buy the 12.5" bbls and put a 5.5" car flashhider pinned on.
I didn't understand that one either cause I could put a car slip-over on my 16", get the same look and actually be 1/2" shorter.

The upper I'm looking at is only offered in mid-length on a 14.5". I'm also looking at the 11.5" and 7.5" versions, but the ATF paperwork looks like a pain.

I thought you had to engrave your lower with your name and city/state after you get it SBR approved?

And the fingerprints and CLEO signature seem like a pain

Engraving costs $10-$20. You can get it done in OKC. I have never used a trust, I have always gone the individual route. I drop my papers at the police station, run a few errands (go to Walgreens for my photos) then come back and pick them up and get my prints done at the same time. Total time is maybe 15 minutes. I don't see the hastle. The CCW paperwork was harder.

Yeah, I was thinking of one of the threaded AAC Blackouts.

Do you think the Brakeout or Blackout is better for suppressed fire?

I just swapped my Blackout for a Brakeout. The Brakeout will extend the life of your can if you use it on a short barrel.

Will a brakeout be beneficial to a can's life on a 14.5" barrel?

How does owning a SBR work with moving states every couple of years (PCSing)? Do you have to get it re-engraved or something?
