I've been meaning to give this IDPA thing a shot. I wussed out on USSA this month because I was too sore for the gym but I will try to make it to this.

A couple questions:

1. Is admission for new guys free like it is at Muskogee and USSA?
2. I was planning on using my everyday carry gear. I'm assuming that it would be a faux-pas to show up carrying, then unload my carry ammo and load up with blasting ammo. I've read that guns being loaded outside of designated areas is frowned upon.
3. I reload 9mm but I haven't chrono'd it. It's a mid-range load. Am I going to have to worry about making minor? Will anyone care since I'll be a first-timer with a subcompact gun? Or should I just quit being a cheapass and buy factory from Wal-Mart?

1. Not sure about this but I think you will have to pay.
2. Everyday carry gear will be fine if it is a concealable strong side holster and mag pouch. No shoulder or cross draw holsters. Show up with your gun unloaded in your holster with the mag out. You will be told by the safety officer when you can load. I would highly recommend that you download the IDPA rule book and read it before the match, it will help you a lot.
3. I wouldn't worry about your ammo, I've never seen a chrono at the local monthly matches.
Just show up,be safe, don't worry about how you do and have fun.

1) The match fees at Oil Capital IDPA are a modest $12 (or $10 for OCR&GC members).

2) If your everyday carry rig meets IDPA standards, you are welcome to use it. Please take a quick look at the official rule book, beginning at pg 29 http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf It would be good to take a tour through the entire rulebook while you're in it.

Don't consider getting a new holster rig until after you shoot some matches. Use what you have or option out for the new shooter option, which is to start with the pistol in hand, at low ready.

If you are arriving at the match site with a loaded firearm that you intend to use in that day's match you'll need to secure the pistol in your vehicle, then find a match official to assist you.

3) We do not usually set up a chrono at monthly matches. Regardless, competitors are expected to make a good faith effort to make required power factor. If you know that your reloads won't make PF, then the easy fix is to reload up a batch that likely will make it.

Thanks for the info.

1) I wasn't complaining, just asking.
2) I know my carry rig is fine, just wanted to make sure I didn't violate any safety rules.
3) They're mid-range loads so they probably do. I'll just grab something from Wal-Mart just to be safe.
