I am building a suppressed 9mm SBR project, but am unsure of a few things.

Should I....
Build it from a stripped receiver/upper and use the 16'' barrel until the form 1 comes back then cut it down to length?

Buy a pistol form AR and just add the parts i want until the form 1 stamp comes back then add the stock?

Is there any reason why i couldnt SBR a AR Pistol(other on 4473) and just go buy a stock when my stamp gets in? or does it have to start as a rifle for some strange reason?

I want to add a rifle length free floating handguard to the 7 inch AR and screw my can on under it with little or no suppresor protruding.

ALSO, would it be better to go with a piston or DI gas system on a short barreled suppressed 9mm?

Who is a local engraver and what from my trust needs to be engraved ( just name and address of trust? )
Does it have to be anywhere specific on the lower?

Should a have to worry about baffle strikes on my can with the 7.5'' 9mm barrel??

heres a picture of what it should look similar too, although i might add the ssar bump stock to it just for shits and grins..

I'll be following this thread with great interest, as it's very much what I have in mind if I go the NFA route. Except for the suppressor, possibly.

9mm AR's are straight blowback. They have NO gas system, so "piston or DI gas system" is irrelevant.

I would just build it as a pistol and add the stock when you get your form 1 back.

You need to engrave your trust name, city and state. Has to be readable and .003" deep. No particular place on the receiver, but has to be visible without disassembly.

Be aware that some folks have had OOB discharges with the 9mm AR's and Slidefire stock. One member on here mentioned that he had this happen, but I do not remember who it was.

That would be me. But the last time I ran my 9mm AR, I used a mix of 250 rounds of WWB, Blazer Brass, and Federal, and had no OOB's. I think the 9mm upper just needed a bit of loosening up to run smoothly.

I thought it was you, but wasn't sure. Glad to hear it has not happened again.

I have bern doing some shopping online and found RRA 9mm lowers are "integral mag wells". Its looking like I might have to build a stripped lower up to a pistol formation (adding the hahn magwell conversion block) and buy the RRA 9mm upper separately, then add a buffer tube and buttstock when the stamp comes in.

Since the 9mm's are blowback I wonder what the shortest barrel length I can get away with? Maybe a 5 inch and a midlength handguard?

How to you measure the overall length to put in the form 1? You would have to use a buttstock and that would be constructive intent.. are you suppose to guess???

TROS has some really nice 5" and 9" 9mm barrels with 3-Lug adapters like in the pic below. Their website is: http://www.trosusa.com/
As for the length, it does not have to be exact (ATF does not run around with a ruler busting folks for an SBR that is .5" off of what is listed on their Form 1). You could either measure the pistol you build and estimate the length of the fully extended stock, or look up the length of a 16" barreled 9mm Carbine and subtract whatever difference in barrel length that you use.

I'd go with the 5" barrel for coolness factor. I believe the MP5 has an 8.79" barrel or somewhere around there but I think if you used a 9" barrel, it would be the same length as a rifle when a can is on it. That kind of defeats the whole SBR purpose to me as far as overall length goes.
