I've started looking into doing the short barreled rifle. I know a few things, $200 tax stamp, several forms to fill out, as well as picture, fingerprints, and local law enforcement sign off. What i haven't heard much about is going the trust route. Any thoughts? Advantages or disadvantages, etc.

Yeah thats true. I forgot about that. You can also transfer the rifle to anyone in that trust, for example if you die it can go to your next of kin without a hastle as long as they are listed in that trust.

Thats good to know 1911sooner! I'll have to learn about setting up a trust then and i think i'm set! Same set of rules applies to suppressors as well doesn't it?

I looked into an SBR also, and I was told that in Tulsa County, the only way you can legally own such a firearm is via a trust. The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office will refuse to sign off on the paperwork if you do not go the trust route.

Someone posted that TPD Chief Chuck Jordan signed for them. Might do a search on that.
