I think I need a new puter and I am overwhelmed with all the choices.

I have always had desktops so I don't know if I would be happy with a laptop, because of the keyboard/mouse, and screen size. I really don't need portability. That being said, if someone has a big screen laptop that they want to recommend, that's ok.

From the research I have done, I would like an Intel i7 processor, 6-8GB of RAM, and 500GB-1TB of storage. I don't need all that, but I tend to keep a system for several years, so I buy overkill.

I have been looking online, and I am having a hard time narrowing it down much from the 10,000 or so choices available.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pick up something used but newer than what you have on Craigslist. Save a lot of $$$. Computers depreciate about as fast as anything.

To me buying used electronics is kinda like buying used underwear, I don't want to end up with someone else's crap on my hands.

This is the newer version of what I have. Although I can't really find any difference in the specs. I got mine in November for $599 on sale. The battery life is consistently 6-7 hours, has more internal storage than you really need on a laptop (I use an external hard drive for anything I don't want to lose), and has 6gbs of memory. If the i5 doesn't last you 3-4 years of usable service, then the i7 probably wouldn't have either.
