Talked to a LEO the other day about it . He was glad it passed and said more ppl should carry in this time. Also said for the city of okc there are only 15-20 police on patrol at one time. I gave him the old when seconds count cops are only minutes away and he laughed and said very true

Just asked a LEO his opinion of Open Carry. He said "I like it in principle, but it was written bad. We can't ask to see a permit or anything so anyone could strap on a gun and we will never know who's a bad guy" I tried to help inform him of the law as I understood it, but he said that wasn't the case.....

He was OHP..... Somebody want to send out a memo? lol.......

In all honesty I can't believe that a LEO has missed that part of the new law....

Actually not true he does not under stand the way the law is written. In fact the law states that you must present your ID and Permit when asked by LEO's

It's not the way the law was written but it maybe the way they are trained to handle the new law if you watch this video with a state trooper in it he says.

Facebook Post-"Will the police be randomly checking open carriers to make sure they have permits"

State Trooper- "The law is very specific, there are only certain times that we can actually check for someone who is carrying concealed or unconcealed. You have to be answering responding to a call, you have to have reasonable supposition that a crime has been committed, or you have to have probable cause. so it is very specific about when we can ask someone for there license"

Saw my first group of open carriers on a call tonight. It appeared to be a family.

They looked as if they were far more likely to die of diabetes or a heart attack than criminal assault.

It would be interesting to hear from the jurisdictions where the Chiefs & Sheriffs had said that their officers / deputies would be checking every single person OCing for their license. I'm wondering how that is going. So far, I haven't read of anyone being checked for a handgun license. :wink2:

How about someone in the news media going back and asking them about their previous unreasonable stance on OC and what changed their minds.

Well, fortunately we retained Jim Bauman in Logan County, so I seriously doubt those deputies will be wasting people's time nitpicking permits.

Have I mentioned today that I don't think there's a better Sheriff in Oklahoma? :)
