Suppressor Differences?

Anyone ever heard of a company called Huntertown Arms? They make suppressor a that apparently can be easily taken apart and baffles rotated and replaced starting at like $150! First reviews look great but I am wondering what separates these from perhaps a GemTec or AAC? So may choices it kind of becomes a cloudy choice....suggestions?

Weight(negligible), materials used, warranty, probably R&D time(I base this solely on the fact that they don't have any sound reduction levels listed). I like how they don't warranty "firing thousands of rounds without cleaning". My AAC is covered even if it's had thousands without cleaning.

The Huntertown Guardian looks like it can be a good choice based on it's specs and reduction. Their website says that it was independently tested at 117db, and that's better than most cans. There are better made cans, with better materials, but they cost twice as much. If you are okay with that, you save enough to pay for the stamp.

When I decided on a suppressor, I wanted to get something long term without getting the want upgrade 10 years from now. Suppressors are a poor money investment since you can never sell them for what you paid (stamp cost) so, it needs to be something you will be happy with every time you go to the range, that includes not being envious if your neighbor has the latest and greatest.

Actually 117 dB is about average for most 22 cans.

Very dependent on weapon and ammo used as well. There are reviews of it on the site they refer to that are over 120dB.

You really cannot use any manufacturers dB numbers to compare suppressors. The only way to get accurate data to compare suppressors would be to shoot them all using the same gun and ammo at the same temperature/altitude/humidity using the same measuring equipment.

If you want a .22 can, look at the Sparrow or Spectre. The single biggest issue with .22 suppressors is ease of cleaning and being ale to get it apart. A cheap option to look at would be the Warlock II. If want to test drive either of the two I recommended, send me a pm.

I look at it as an investment. You're going to pay $200 that you will never get back to own this item. Because of this, most people keep their NFA items. Buy the one you know has a good track record and customer service. An example would be a friend of mine bought a tac65 and I bought the spectre. There is no question that the spectre is a far better suppressor. He's considered selling his, but he would have to eat that $200 stamp. This is one of those areas that I definitely recommend crying once.

Thanks! I might take you up on that offer! I will certainly start doing my research...I agree with jakerz that buying quality is the smart way to go . Just narrowing down quality with price is the tricky part. Some of these companies charge outrageous prices for a can that might not necessarily better than another half its price. But....you usually get what you pay for, right!

I have a Kestrel 556 in stock. I don't really care for the company and the suppressor is about the quality you could build in the garage. Color me totally unimpressed. For a 556 can really look hard at the Specwar 556. Hard to beat for the money. In my opinion, a rifle suppressor that is not welded and comes apart is a negative not a positive. It won't carbon up so there is no need to clean it. It's just less durable in the end.
