In okc area, I have a hard time tightening the barrel to spec and align with the next hole, using only the lower vise block. I needed the upper block!

I don't yet have one, but before my next build, or build for a friend, I will. I just think it would do a better job than the clamshell style.

I have the Brownell's clamshell version. If you're ever up in the Edmond area, we can get it installed.

It's definitely doable with just lower vise block. I've put something like 75 ft lbs with one of those on a barrel nut.

Three important questions:
1. Is the vise heavy and securely attached to something that's also very heavy or securely attached to the floor so nothing gives?
2. Are you using a torque wrench?
3. Are you using moly grease on the threads?

No, small 4" vise, clamped to dinning room table.
2. Are you using a torque wrench?
yes.
3. Are you using moly grease on the threads?
yes

About 35ft/lbs, but gas tube not line up. And about 40ft/lbs still about 1/3 of hole still blocked.
If I kept going, it just feel it will brake on me. So I back it off, so the torque right now is less then 30ft/lbs. Plus the wrench I got from my LGS not really good either.
( I wouldn't shoot it till I got it right)
