Do you have a link to your source? I'm still active on a couple of Washington gun forums where the brace has been discussed a lot and I haven't heard about arrests or threats. Since WA prohibits SBRs, this brace has become quite popular.

Forgot about this thread. Grew a couple of pages since the last time I read it.

I spend half my life in Washington and am a regular at West Coast Armory and Wade's gun range, but also shoot out in the open ranges (out in the stix) when I'm out there. Admittedly, I don't have an online source on the arrests (actually charged with crime) so maybe the person who told me at West Coast Armory was full of BS. Washington prohibits SBR's, so anything that looks like an SBR is going to get noticed. It's not a matter of what's "legal" or what the ATF said, but what the police who doesn't know or care about the ATF ruling will do that can make for a bad day. You won't be charged with a crime, but doesn't prevent you from being "detained" and hassled. Will it happen in OK or in most places that have strong firearms support? Probably not. In states where SBR's are prohibited, there's enough of a chance that I wouldn't.

Getting noticed was what happened to a friend who lives in the Bothell area.. He was detained, taken to the station and after a few hours they let him go. I assumed they were on the line with the DA and when they couldn't charge him with anything, they let him go. He had the paperwork with him and they didn't care. He had a goPro attached to the pistol that was left on when the incident happened, but the memory card (conveniently) is missing. Doesn't remember what happened to the memory card. He has since removed the brace until the brace becomes more common place out where he shoots. He kept the KAK lengthened pistol tube designed for the SIG brace, however and shoved a rubber cane tip on the end for now.

I've spoken to Redmond cops out at Wades who made the comment about considering anyone shooting with the brace shouldered as a "misuse" of the device and skirting laws. Again, he doesn't have a leg to stand on to get any charges to stick on anyone he would arrest, and most likely anyone he would arrest wouldn't get charged at all and will be let go. But it's enough for people I know to not use the brace, especially out in the remote areas with sheriffs who don't know or care what a "sig brace" is.

That is terrible for the folks in Washington state. So sorry for them.

Fortunately, we do not live there. We live in Oklahoma. Now, as this is OKLAHOMA Shooters, has anyone locally had problems or run-ins with local law enforcement? Please do speak up. Not rumors. Actual, real life Okies IN Oklahoma?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Frankly, I don't care how they do it in California, Washington, Russia, whatever. I have no plans of living in any of those places, and if I am going to visit, I don't feel the need to take an AR pistol.

Sure would love to hear some of our local police on here speak up on this. Where is a cop when you need one?

I dont have an AK pistol with a brace but, the only time I have come anywhere near closed to being bothered by the law while shooting was the last time me and a friend of mine and four or five other people were out shooting on the east side of keetonville hill. A sheriffs dept car was parked across the street in the church parking lot watching us. It didnt go any further than that though.

Now whether or not a cop buys that is another issue all together.

I bought one from FBT while waiting on my tax stamp then I will resell it when it gets in. I read places online that said by the wording in the original letter, it did not matter because the arm is not part of the firearm. Now with this letter, I will feel confident. I just printed it and put it in my range bag. If something does come up with a local LEO, and he does not "accept" the ATF letters, it would not fly in court. My comp plan has prepaid legal services so I'll be fine.

Since your 'pistol' does not meet the requirements to be open or concealed carried under the OK SDA, both of our firearms (your pistol and my SBR) are treated in the same manner under Oklahoma law. Anywhere you I am legally allowed to be in possession of a rifle, I am allowed to have my SBR.

Actually it does meet the requirements. Pistol is defined in two separate sections, one defines it as an overall length of less than 16in. The second defines it as having a barrel length of 16in, so by that definition, it is legal. All other characteristics in the two definitions are the same.
