I am thinking about building an AR SBR in 300 BLK.

Is the best way to build the AR as a pistol first and file for the SBR?

I know not to add a vertical grip and no rifle stock.

Should I get the stripped lower registered as a pistol from the start or just other until I file?

Any other pointers are welcome.

A lower gets put on the 4473 as other, there is no registering it. Yes you can build as a pistol and use till the stamp comes back.

I just ordered mine with the KAK super buffer tube with spacers that is made for it. Lol... Figured I better get one while they are approved...

Another vote for the Sig brace. Fantastic loophole, and it keeps your information from being in the NFA database, not to mention $200 bucks in a stamp and 9-14 months of waiting.

Sbr efile took less than a month for me. I went the sbr route for stability. I do think the tax is a bit much just to have a shorter barrel.

If you think $200 is high you should see what it costs if it were to be adjusted for inflation.

No kidding. That $200 tax rate was set in 1934. In today's dollars it would be around $3500.
