There is no law that requires you to keep your form 4 or even a copy of it with you. However, most people keep a copy with them to avoid any issues. All my original forms are at the bank in my safe deposit box. I just keep copies with me.

So the short answer is an electronic copy is more than what is required.

So this doesn't mean I need a copy with me on the off chance that an agent of the ATF requests to see the documentation?

Section 3.7 Maintaining registration documents. A person possessing an NFA firearm registered as
required by law must retain proof of registration, that is, the document showing the person’s registration,
which must be made available to ATF upon request. 26 U.S.C. 5841(e)

TITLE 27 CFR CHAPTER II § 479.71 Proof of registration.
The approval by the Director of an application, Form 1 (Firearms), to make a firearm under this
subpart shall effectuate registration of the firearm described in the Form 1 (Firearms) to the person
making the firearm. The original Form 1 (Firearms) showing approval by the Director shall be retained
by the maker to establish proof of his registration of the firearm described therein, and shall be made
available to any ATF officer on request.

Section 3.7 - you must retain the documentation. If you lose a form you need to get it replaced but maintaining it at your home or some other location is retaining proof of registration. Nothing says you have to maintain it on your person or with the weapon.

Title 27 - Same answer really. If they request to see it you must provide it to them. However, it could be argued that you could bring it by their office the next day for their review. It still does not say immediately or that you have to keep it on your person or with the weapon. The truth is if they have an issue they are going to look it up themselves anyway because having the form is not really proof. I still have all the original forms for items I sold that are no longer registered to me.

That being said everyone carries a copy with them, because the worst case scenario is that you are detained until you produce the form. I have never heard of this happening but I guess it could. I would never carry the originals and risk them being lost or stolen.

Ever wonder "What the crap am I gonna store inside my MIAD?". Question answered. Shrink a 'clear' copy down and have it very thin laminated. Rolls right up, and inside the grip. No worries about losing it. However, if you change grips out, remember to make the swap

I made copies off all mine and put all of them in every bag I have (Rifle, Range, cleaning etc.) I also keep a PDF of each on my phone.

I don't feel that I need anything else...

I use Magpul ACS or STR stocks on SBR's for that exact reason.
