A few restrictions -

Must be 1.5" OD - my rail is 1.56" ID. If there's a REALLY good reason to change the rail, I could do that, but it would have to be compelling.

Obviously - .308/7.62 cal.

Quick-detach or otherwise mountable - no direct-thread. I want to use an integrated mounting/muzzle device. I'll likely be huying some similar AR15 mounts so it can share duty.

I've looked around, watched videos from SilencerShop, etc. And I feel like I'm no closer than I was. I honestly feel like it doesn't matter much, I could really toss a coin, or buy a moderately-priced, and get essentially not much difference than a high-end one. I mean, I'm talking the difference between $300-500 up to $1000. I don't see myself buying a high-end one as my first suppressor purchase.

That vast majority of its use will probably be subsonic Blackout. But I would like one that has some versatility in other calibers and for some supersonic Blackout.

Any suggestions? How did you guys make your choice, what factors did you use for your first can, what specs/stats/opinions seemed to stand out to make one a better choice than another? I haven't found any real reviews that say, "This can is ****, DON'T BUY IT."

Soonersfan is correct on running it under a rail. You are probably going to want to change the rail. There are a couple reasons not to mount a QD can under a rail. The can will heat up with use and you may not want your hand over it, it is a really big PIA to get it detached from the mount, and it may limit your selection on cans. I have an SDN6 and a Specwar 7.62. Both work well, but I like the mounting system on the Specwar much more. I have several suppressors from several manufacturers and love the customer service that SilencerCo has given me. If you weren't going to use supersonic rounds and weren't worried about using it on other centerfire rifle, I would recommend a thread on pistol can.

Well, as far a the can heating up the rail, I'm not completely covering the can... 12" rail, 10.5" barrel. And the handguard is pretty skeletonized - Rainier Evolution.

So I'd hope it'll have pretty good airflow, but I take the advice. I figured with a suppressor mount, only 1-2" at most of the can would be covered. I just like the look of cans under the handguard on an SBR.

That was my main concern with mounting that way, was actually being able to detach the can. I don't know how most of those mounting systems work. Hard to tell from just pics. Some of what I'm reading says Saker and Gemtech as well as YHM are one-hand removal, so that could work. Those were on my "short-list", so to speak, already.

The main reason I wanted QD was to be able to do multi-rifle duty... have matching muzzle devices on some of my 5.56, my 6.8 and my .300. I don't want to have to deal with removing muzzle devices to add the suppressor, or reinstalling them if I'm shooting unsuppressed.

Some of the ones that I would look at would be the SilencerCo Omega, Griffin Armament Recce 7, and the Sig SRD762 TI QD. All of them are QD and include the muzzle device.

Works for every caliber from .30 on down.

But are they one-hand friendly? I mean, having to do something under the rail to remove it may be problematic. I dunno. Where do you find info on how the QDs work? Like youtube videos or something?

I'm with you on the QD idea, that is all I have for centerfire rifle cans. As for how the suppressor mounting systems attach to the suppressor, there are a couple ways. Some will have a latch you press and then unscrew from the course threads on the mount. Some have a locking ring that you have to disengage and then unscrew from the course threads. They are one hand removal, if you can get to the part that locks the suppressor on. This is the problem with running a rail even close to the suppressor, much less under it. It can be done, but only with a few factory rails. The Seekins rail should be fine as that is what they are designed for, but it is still may be a pain.

I have a YHM .30 cal stainless QD can and it would fit your criteria. It simply screws on without external locking latches. It has small tabs that lock it in place. It can also shoot pretty much anything else under .30 cal as well. I shoot .223/5.56 and .22LR thru mine all the time as well as .300 blk. Furthermore, there are a variety of different flash hiders and brakes that are compatible and most are in the $75 range. It is a super sturdy can too, rated for full auto and its very quiet. You can usually find them for ~$750. My only complaint is that it is tad heavy.

*EDIT: Just measured the outer diameter with a micrometer and its 1.63 inches so its too big for your specs.
