I am looking to buy a suppressor in the next 3-6 months, and am wondering where the best place to buy might be? As well as a good "cheap" brand? I've seen where Clements Firearms in Enid are selling their "Mexi Can" for $550, just wondering if there are others in that price range that I need to check out? Will be needing a 30 cal can to cover any rifle I currently have. I know several shops like SSP, Gene Sears and others will set up your trust for free when you purchase from them, so I would like that kind of place since this is my first NFA purchase. Thanks!

I would send you to SSP and have you talk with Tommy. I would also suggest you stay away from cheap cans as a suppressor is the last place yo want to go cheap. I'd tell you to take a look at a SilencerCo SpecWar 7.62 or an AAC SD-7.62 for a nice and budget friendly can. Also, you will want a separate .22 suppressor if you shoot much rimfire.

Those two look pretty good man, thanks. I hope to be able to drop up to $1000 on the purchase, with that including the $200 stamp; I was talking to a dealer the other day that said the biggest difference between something like the titanium models vs the steel is mainly weight, not a lot of noise reduction difference between the high end and lower end ones. And I forgot to mention that I live in far western OK (about 20 miles from TX panhandle border), so would like to stay around OKC and west. Thanks

The SDN-6 from AAC is also pretty nice. I prefer my Specwar to my SDN-6. The Saker is pretty nice, but is little more expensive. There are several good options that can be had for $1000 with the stamp. If I were you, I would call down to Tommy at SSP and see what he can do for a SpecWar 7.62 & a nice rimfire can. I would call them up ASAP and get your stuff rolling as the wait for your first suppressor is always the longest.

Thanks for the help bsmith...I noticed when I looked up the SpecWar earlier that it showed it going thru SSP at such and such price. I've bought at least one gun from Sooner, and some other stuff too I believe, I just don't make it to OKC very often. I honestly don't shoot rimfire stuff much, but do like the thought of one day having a suppressor for some of my other pistols. And trust me, if I had the money right now, the ball would be rolling already since I made my mind up a few weeks back. I plan to do some vehicle swapping very soon, which I hope will free up enough money for this purchase. BTW, which location does Tommy work at? I've been to the northside and southside SSP's, just not the new one in Norman or wherever.

Look at the SDN-6, the Saker and the new Sig 762 QD. The Sig looks very promising. When they ship......

Check out the silencershop.com in Austin Tx. Here is a little blurb they just came out with.

Silencer Shop has made some changes to the way that customers purchase from us. If you are familiar with the Silencer Shop Direct program, then you’ll see the changes are small.

Here’s how it works:
When you are logged in to the website and look at a silencer, you will find a drop down box listing the FFL’s near you. If you don’t see a specific FFL listed in your area, click the check box to un-check the "Powered By" box. If you still don't see the FFL that you are looking for we cannot send it to them.
Beside each FFL in the drop box will be a rating, distance to you and the price. Different FFL's will have different prices. If you select an FFL that has the “Powered By” logo under their name, then you can purchase a tax stamp from Silencer Shop and we will handle all of the paperwork for you.

The transaction would look like this:
1.Purchase the suppressor directly from our website or over the phone.
2.Pay the $200 NFA tax. Most people just add this to the initial order; however, it can be purchased later if you prefer. A credit or debit card works just fine for paying the tax. (Remember that we can’t start your Form 4 transfer until you purchase the tax stamp.)
3.We’ll email you instructions on how to provide us with a copy of your trust (typically email or fax works best). If you’re registering using a corporation, we only need the legal name.

That’s it! We’ll take care of getting everything reviewed and submitted right away.

If you select and FFL that does not have the “Powered By” logo, then we will send the silencer to the FFL you select and you will complete the paperwork with them. These FFL’s are called “Buy-It-Local” FFL’s.

The advantage of these changes in how you buy silencers is that you are no longer paying a transfer fee, Silencer Shop will still handle your paperwork if you select a “Powered By” FFL, and you are supporting the local shops in your area.

Talked to SSP today, sounds like they'll probably be the place I use. Also, how are the Huntertown and YHM cans? Are they too "cheap" to really consider? Thanks for all the help once again.

Stay away from the Huntertown stuff. They are heavy, loud, and have really awful CS. The YHM stuff is OK, but tends to be heavy unless you go with a Titanium can. I wouldn't spend my money on an HTA can and really wouldn't consider a YHM can unless I got an amazing deal.
