one dollar but i'll give you two! no seriously, there are many many factors at play when dealing with 1911's. matching numbers,finish,bore,etc,etc.
i'm sure the guru's that i trust and respect their knowledge will come by soon.

I will preface the info below by stating that my knowledge of 1911's is limited. IMHO, the gun looks pretty beat given the $1600 asking price. Surjimmy deals in USGI 1911's regularly and could likely tell you how correct it appears based on the two photos in the Craigslist ad. For it to be valued near the asking price it would need to be 100% correct down to the magazine and have an original finish that hasn't been messed with. It appears that the finish may have been removed by some overly aggressive cleaning and not natural wear. The photos are poor so I'd like to see it in person to make that determination. Most of the small parts look correct at first glance, but I'm not quite sure about the safety. Grips also look correct, but the right stock is cracked.

If you are looking for a USGI 1911, I would definitely recommend an A1 as it could be used as an occasional shooter unlike a WWI era gun. 1911's are a minefield and require a fair amount of knowledge before dropping any serious sum of cash on one. Definitely consult an expert's opinion before purchasing and adding one to your collection.

HA!, I have no trouble spending someone else's money.^^^^^ Thanks for the kind words Luke, I agree with you on the value. IMHO that gun is worth about $1000 tops, and that's on a good day. Everything looks ok, but I can't tell about the trigger.

I'm super happy with my choice, based on Jimmy's advice. Had I purchased the 1911 I was originally looking at, I probably would of upgraded by now anyway.
As far as the 1911 I originally asked about, I was figuring about $900-$1000.
