Am about to built an 9mm Ar upper for plicking 50yds or less , what wt and bullet design would be a good pick 115-147 gr RN / HAP . I plan to take some factory ammo out to the range for a test drive before I start reloading ,so I can buy just what I need and the gun likes . The XL 650 is setup already with a taper resizer, hornary bullet guide seater ,taper crimper .

I currently use a 124 grain with 3.5 grains of hp-38, but have run everything from 115grain all the way up to 165 without a hitch.
Magazines and the mag block are the most finicky parts of the rifle is going with the colt pattern mags.

Mine has run everything I've stuffed into the mag so far. Except for Remington factory 115 HP. It won't shoot that stuff at all which is odd because it's almost a RN profile. Everything else from standard pressure to +P and +P+ loads from Winchester SXT, Speer Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Duty and Federal HST plus my coated lead 147 TC spider fart loads have ran without a single bobble.

Mine's built on a Colt pattern with a Metalform mag with a Hahn block.

If you're using reloads for 9mm carbine, pay attention to the reloading manual. Some of the loads I've found listed have a note (*not for use in rifles").

I started out with 147 grain bullets and found that the timer had trouble picking up the sound of the shots. I switched to 124 grain and haven't had any more problems.
