Ballistol: a new product to me

Thanks to our member steelfingers, I got to try some ballistol all for the first time. It does smell a little bit like cat whiz, but it sure eats the crud and carbon away from your firearms. I like that it's eco friendly, and you don't have to wear nitrile gloves when cleaning. Thank again to my man, for introducing me to this product. I just cleaned 4 pistols in about 30 minutes with this stuff. I've been a Breakfree CLP user for a long time, but the Ballistol picked some grunge up out of the bore that the Breakfree left behind. Pretty good stuff!

It can be mixed 1/10 with water for a great black powder cleaner. I've been using it for years. On the down side, it was invented for the German Army, and they two wars while using it.

I cleaned 7 pistols with it this weekend and was pretty impressed with it. I like it, too, except for the smell.

Yeah, it does have a certain odor about it. I put a 1911 laying in a box lined with an old gun rag on a shelf in my closet while it was soaking in the stuff overnight...and it smells like something whizzed in my closet this morning. So She Who Must Be Obeyed has decreed that my guns are from now on, to be cleaned either outside, or in the garage. I tried to tell her it was less lethal than Hoppes #9, which has already been banned from the home environment, but I was quickly shut down.

Funny. The smell is ok with me, but my wife says "NOT IN THE HOUSE" but the garage is attached and I've made a gun cleaning table until I get electricity to my small work shed. Want lots of plug in's lights and AC

I tried to tell her it was less lethal than Hoppes #9, which has already been banned from the home environment, but I was quickly shut down.

I tried to get my wife to use #9 as a perfume, but she wasn't having it. <sigh>

I know...I heard that you can sprinkle it around your walk and near your front door and it will keep anti's and liberals away.
