I too have severe arthritis in my hands and even had surgery on my right wrist. Ues a lot of Bigel Oil. Can't shoot a J frame .38. My favorite is my Boberg XR9. Very low recoil and comfortable to shoot. Boberg has recently been bought out by Bond Arms and is being re-labeled the Bullpup.

And I've got arthritis in the fingers of both hands from falling down some stairs 35 years ago and I don't want it to interfere with my banjo playing or shooting. So far I have told myself it doesn't matter and it doesn't-until the wife asked me if it hurts.

I was thinking about the 22mag idea earlier today, but I just can't push myself toward the hi-point idea. I know..... But I'd probably just start carrying a pocket full of rocks first! Ha!
Kel-tec makes a .22 mag semi auto called the PMR-30. Holds 30 rounds of .22 mag. I've shot one at a target at 10 yards and got acceptable groups for firing off hand, although this link had some issues with accuracy. It could have been the ammo used in the link, as the gun does not like some ammo according to Kel-Tec.

Been trying the Bigeloil for a few days, and I think I'm a believer. Seems to be helping greatly. Thanks for the suggestion.

When I'm suffering from such ailments, I'll take ibuprofin before I leave for the range.

But, when you see your doc, ask him for a prescription for Voltarin Gel. It's a topical ointment NSAID and works better than one might imagine.

Ibuprofen has always helped me and family with this. A relative uses Blu Emu and says it helps.

I am going to buy some Voltarin Gel...

You will LOVE that Gel. It works fast. I've gotten the best results by putting it on my thumb joint, front and back of that wrist and on my palm every morning. I hardly ever have anything more than a twinge now. Oh, and I do thumb exercises I got from my PT 3 times a day.

I recently got that problem, switched from an airweight j frame to a steel 640. I also carry a S&W Shield 9mm and other than racking the slide and loading the mags, actually shooting it is very easy on my hands.
