This ^^^^^ is good to know.
Or a pig, then he can eat the pig later. Pigs hate a snake and will eat it.One of the better deterrents would be a fence around your house with a few rat terriers in the yard. They can be very good snake killers.
There is most certainly a link there.Has 19 pigs last year and saw very few snakes, no pigs this year and snakes are out and about. Might be onto something there.
Was at the range yesterday. Driving out, a bull snake was crossing the two track road. Stretched almost completely across at one time. Measured the road by stepping it off. It was 6 1/2', probably 2 1/2" in diameter. Biggest I've ever seen. He got down into the rip rap rocks beside the road before I could get the phone out to take a pic. Beautiful snake, and like you said, he eats a lot of mice and rats when they are that big. Good snake.I've got a 5.5 ft snake hanging out around the house now for the 2nd year in a row. I've caught him and measured him a few times, and see him about once a week. He's a big bastard. I don't know what kind of snake he is, but as long as he behaves himself he can stay here as long as he wants. Of course, if I keep snatching him up, pestering him and measuring him he'll prolly just move on the the neighbors, who will prolly introduce him to a shovel. Which would be a shame. As big as he is it prolly takes a bunch of mice to keep him full.
