That is good soil and you did it right! Good for you that you kept the property, a lot of people would have sold it and bought a new car which is temporary pleasure.
Me, I planted a few tomato plants and have to run out every day and cover them for Gail protection. How do you avoid hail destruction of your garden?

So far I've only had hail once this season. It was pea/marble size and lasted for about 10 minutes, although it felt like an eternity. I was very fortunate and lost nothing but my neighbor had to replace about 20 okra.

All I've done to protect from storms is hill the corn (although it's a little on the short side) and do a Florida weave on the tomatoes. Also I've held off on a final thinning of the corn.

We got 2.5" of rain last night along with high winds, and I noticed this morning that one of the okra and a few corn stalks did a face plant. Pretty fortunate all things considered.

Mine isn't really a garden and haven taken any pictures but the plan is to plant an acre of sunflowers. That is if it ever quits raining long enough for the ground to dry out enough to be able to get a tractor on it. I plowed under the sod about the middle of winter and still had allot of grass clumps to deal with. Been working on getting it level and smooth enough with my 6 foot tiller and land scape rake to plant. About got it but this wet weather is sure making progress a challenge. Right now it is standing water and mud.

Dang. Got 1.5" and was lucky. Looked like folks to the south and east got hammered again. May be a while on getting the tractor in that field.

My 4x8 foot strawberry bed is doing great - getting a large bowl of strawberries everyday. Tomatoes and peppers are doing okay. My cucumbers are a different story. I can't seem to get the seeds to germinate.

All I have this year are the blackberry bushes and fruit trees I put out last year. Blackberries are going gangbusters. I picked all the blooms off the fruit trees so they would focus on growth this year.

A few asparagus plants out of a dozen I planted came back up, but letting them grow out this year too.

Too many health issues I knew were coming to a head this spring. Next year's gonna be a whole different deal but I'm happy with the blackberries. They are gonna keep me busy for a while.

Just got home and found a couple dead maters and okra. Weird because they just looked wilted, not broken. Maybe all that rain found a gopher tunnel and exposed the roots?

My cucumbers and cantelope are rebounding. Cauliflower all harvested. Cabbage ready right now. Carrots are getting pulled daily. Onions should be falling over any day. Half the tomatoes plants are loaded. Peppers are struggling but should start off this week. Watermelon just broke ground.
