the thing to never do with a nitride barrel is run a wire brush thru the bore. i use nylon like brushes. and it cleans so easy, even the bolts and bolt carriers. Mr. Beene at ARP said he has a nitride barrel that been in salt water for either 3 or 5 years (i disremember which) and it shows no signs of corrosion. plus nitride is slick as owl snot, all my barrels are nitride treated and i have zero complaints

So, you can use a bronze brush on a regular barrel. Nitrided barrels are harder than untreated barrels, but they are ruined by a bronze brush?

Doesn't make sense to me. What am I missing?

this looks like an argument looking for a place to happen. the answer is, those are the barrel makers instructions/recommendations , follow them and he provides the best customer service i've ever seen

This makes sense to me. I don't understand either.
When I got the barrel for my .243WSSM AR, the guy told me 200 rounds for minimum break-in, fire three shots, snake bore it, repeat. That was in 2008. Do you know how expensive ammo was in 2008? ($40 for a box of 20)Cost me a fortune and it shot just as well at bullet one as it did at bullet 200.
Barrel break-in hasn't worked for me.
I will say my first stainless Ruger 10-22 shot better after a hundred rounds, but I didn't clean it between shooting sessions either.

the nitrided barrels are not ruined by using a bronze brush, the black finish is just like blue, it will wear off eventually, why help it wear off? it cleans so easily and is very slick, i want it to stay intact. but if ruining a finish is your thing go key your car or truck LOL

How can a bronze brush ruin it though vs the copper jacketed bullets that will zip through there at 18,000 rpm on average with a ball of fire behind it at maybe a thousand degrees?

Nitride finish is harder than most knife steels. A bronze brush won't do anything to it.

More barrels are ruined by shoddy cleaning methods than any other way.

I'll stick with my chrome lined barrels. Military must use it for a reason.

Nitrided barrels are not as hard as Chrome. The hardest nitride treatment right now is about 66 to 68 Hrc hardness. Chrome is 70 Hrc hardness. The bonded chrome lining is slightly thicker as well than the nitrided surface.

A 1k full auto torture test will have slightly less wear in the chrome lined barrel, than the nitrided barrel

What does that mean. Notta thing for the average shooter, or the hardcore shooter. If your gong to fire full auto, you might get 9k rounds of use with nitride as opposed to 10k with a hard chrome lined barrel
