I got drawn a few years back. Canton was pretty good back then. Missed a buck (long shot, buck moving) and passed on a spike. Saw several does that were shootable but I had no tag. BIL saw a ginormous hog too. He didn't shoot it because he was scared of wounding that big bastard and having it charge, plus there was no way we could drag it out from where it was. Wardens said "you can leave them lay if you want, but shoot all you can!"

It's a great place to hunt.

I've been around and killed a bunch of pigs, and the internet lore about them charging is a VERY rare scenario. More than likely, he would have run the other way like his tail was on fire. In my opinion and sounds like the warden's too, the environmentally correct thing to do would have been to get lead in the hog whether y'all could salvage the meat or not.

Thanks for the reply. I have fished the lake and river there, a lot, but have not ventured into the hunting areas on the North side yet. Wondering what distance to sight in for.

Have any OSA members participated in this one? The success rate was about 20% last year.

I drew a few yrs back hunting so so don't be fooled by all the open fields hunt the thick cover that's where they are ! I believe they still do a drawing after you check in for the hunt it is for the duck refuge if you get drawn for that BIG DEER and lots of them!

I drew in for this hunt 8-9 years ago, way too many people in the same location for me so I haven't entered since.

I saw that mentioned in the letter that I received, but it specified 4 man entries. I'm in solo, but it would be nice.

You will still be in a group. The ODW determines how many people need to be in a selected area. If you're by yourself, you don't get the entire area by yourself. You're added to the group.

The day you arrive, talk to the others and set up some quick rules. No walking around, In and out, and respect your hunting area that you divide up among yourselves.
