Yes, yes, I know there are a number of folks here who haven't been out to the movies since <insert classic movie name or remote date here>. I know.

So... that being said.

Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have great reviews. Critics gave it 18% (of course) but I usually ignore the critics votes, because 90% of them aren't looking for the same thing in a movie that I am, especially with my family. Audiences scored it about 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Stephen King's movies (or... movies based on Stephen King's writings?) have a pretty poor track record overall, I think. Nothing since IT has been really profound, I don't think. Misery was arguably pretty good, although low-budget. Of course Carrie, Christine and Cujo are old classics and not great films, but for the time, they were par for most of the course.

Loved The Dark Tower series, and although I honestly haven't been totally sold on the casting, I guess I am willing to wait and withhold judgement.

We're heading to see it in a little bit. Surprisingly, although it is a PG-13, I think that is mostly for thematic elements and violence, the language is very very mild and the sexuality is practically non-existent. At least, very surprising to me these days in a big-budget (supposed) blockbuster, which is refreshing. We use http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ for movie reviews to help decide if something is family-friendly or kid-friendly, and they rated it at a 1-6-3 for sexuality/violence/language. Lower than most of the superhero movies these days. Very glad to see.

So anyways, hopefully it'll be ok and I can report back favorably in a few hours.

Well, I won't say The Dark Tower was a great movie, it WAS pretty good. I'm just happy they finally did something with it. It was full of Easter Eggs for fans of the books and was fun to watch. I'd have liked for Mathew mcconaughey to be a funnier more charismatic Flagg but still good overall.

I wanna go see it just because I like the stars in it. And it it turns out to be so-so I'm sure I've paid more money for less ...

I'm STILL trying to get my butt out to go see Atomic Blonde, though. That trailer with her pounding the guy in the chest with her stiletto has me ... ahem ... "intrigued" ... lol

If I wait a couple more weeks it will be on PPV for $7.99 ... I'm such a cheapskate.

A few of my friends (I don't have many :cry11:) saw Atomic Blonde and had nothing really good to say about it

Too many good book get made into bad movies. I cant say I ever read or saw a Stephen King novel or movie worth my time

Its really hard to sit through a movie that butchered from a decent book. Like The Shannara Chronicles. THe books were OK (wasn't a real fan but they were mildly entertaining) MTVs production of it was criminal.

Robert Jordan and the Wheel of time series is probably the only fantasy series I ever found that was what I would consider Great. Not sure I want to see it turned into a movie by low budget hack production companies.

On the other hand, Tolkiens books were made into great movies

THIS is why ... instead of dropping $20 at the door for tickets, and another $20 at the concession stand for the old man's nasty-ass popcorn and a pop, to go sit in nasty-ass chairs that people and kids have done God knows what in (yeah, that germaphobe thing rears its head again) to be bugged by people who didn't plan ahead and pee before the movie started, or who want to carry on a conversation (go to a damned restaurant!!), I just wait for it to show up on the PPV movies on cable, throw a bag of popcorn on the microwave for the old man, put my feet up with a beer and enjoy the mediocre movie I would have been pissed off about if we'd dropped $40-50 on "date night" ... BONUS POINTS for getting to not have to get dressed and put make-up on ... haha!

I'm really not too much of a people person anyway. Saves me a TON of money ... lol
