Wouldn't a better question be "who gardens successfully?"

Good question.
If it's your first time, anything edible is a success... :D
optimist view!
You can be a successful Gardener by taking care of the soil. Get a soil test every year, that's the secret. Use natural pesticides if possible.

I'm a low level wannabe gardner, have very little clue as to what I'm doing.
We've got a 15x25 raised bed and this year I'm going to try lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, squash, cantaloupe, carrots, and corn.
We've got some asparagus that we've had for about 3 years.
I don't plant much of any one thing since we don't find time to preserve any of it. I'll just be happy to get some results.

I'm also trying a few plants in Walmart reusable shopping bags, as in the modified rain gutter grow system. Has anyone tried that?

That was pretty cool. Here in OK I would think you would go through a lot of buckets though, with the sun. I would avoid using totes since they are not food grade poly

Im jealous of all you gardeners, been growing gardens for 40+ years til i broke my back in February this year. If i can find it i have a journal I've written over the years that tell you what time of the year to plant everything and care for each plant. If anyone is interested I'd be glad to try to find it and mail you a copy. ( moved the wife into her "dream house in a gated community last September " Sincerely bigred1

Ok, I wasn't gonna ask first but if you find it I'd like a copy, too. I'm a lot of things but master gardener is not one ... I've lost track of the number of tomato plants I've murdered.

If you can give me some clue how big it is, and PM me YOUR address, I'll send you a SASE ... and money for your copying expense.

Let me locate it. It's in a box with every ever manual I've bought for every piece of equipment I've ever bought. Might take a little while, like a say we moved here in September and I downsized yard wise and lost my 30x40 insulated climate controlled shop. The things we do for love. Geez..... Annie people came from miles around to wonder through my tomato patch. Had to brag just a little, sorry. Consider it my contribution to the great people on OSA! I will endeaver to persevere !!!!
