I run SSAs in most of my carbines that might see defensive use or get loaned in a class. I used single stages in my competition guns. Geissele SD-3G and JPs with yellow, etc. I've put a SSA-E in a friends. The subsequent 2 guns he chose SSA triggers and said he was going swap the E out. But never has yet.

The SSa- E has 2.3 first stage, 1.2 lbs on the second stage, 3.5 total. The SSA has 2.5/2.0/4.5.
To me the first stage feels identical with a slightly higher break point once it hits the wall on the SSA.

Personal preference is the big thing.
One thing you will find is the SSA is recommended for Hunting, Law Enforcement, home defense and military use.

The SSA-E is marketed toward target use.

Either is awesome but serves a slightly different purpose.

Anything would be better than the factory Colt trigger. Too gritty and I don't want to polish or mod in case I want to sell as original. Think the SAA E will be my pick and now on the hunt.

It is I think

Make sure you measure one of the pins before you buy one.

I just checked and it looks like Colt went back to small pins in 2009. If you have a large pin gun, you choices will be limited. But they make the SSA, SSA-E and the S3G in a large pin version. It's rare to see one on the used market. (I've been keeping my eyes open for one for old SP1). And they are 20% higher than small pin versions.

Primary Arms, Midway, and several others are allowed to run specials on them every once in a while. Usually in conjunction with a holiday and in the 20-25% range and limited to stock on hand. Primary Arms and Midway stock them. I don't really want to pay $300 for one!
