Grendel go/no-go

anyone around the Cotton County area have a set of go/no-go gauges for 6.5 grendel? Or way to check without the gauges? Thanks

I have found factory ammo or full length resized brass to be the most accurate means of measuring headspace...

Until you can find a way to reload and shoot headspace gauges, I find them to be useless! This also comes from someone who has been building and rebarreling guns for over 34 years.

I can see that for if it will is a no go ( oal of round too long) but how do you tell if there is too much space?

I made a set of shims from a feeler gauge in .0005 increments that I stick to the case head with a very small dab of Vaseline. It takes less than 3 minutes to tell the exact headspace of any cartridge.

Depends on the gun, cartridge and chamber.

For a fast stepping varmint or big game cartridge that heats a barrel up in just a few rounds, .0035 headspace should keep the action from locking up when it gets hot from extended shooting sessions...

With my favorite long range rifle that is NOT allowed to get hot from shooting, I have headspace adjusted to .0005. I use nothing but nylon brushes when cleaning the bore, as a single brass bristle in the wrong spot, can cause the action to lock up at the most inopertun time...

How much is too much? I never exceed .004 for any chamber that I cut...

Thanks for the info. I have a 722 243 that I cant get anyone to work on so I may have to buy a 700 bolt and try to use it. I stay broke so I need to check the headspace myself to save a few dollars.

I got tired of trying to find an extractor that would fit so I took it to a gun smith that has been in the game for years. His work has apparently gone to **** lately. I didnt know that though so I took it to him to have a Sako extractor put in. He did a horrible job. Im afraid he milled my bolt too far forward. Its to the point now it wont extract so I cant even shoot it. That was last summer after he had it all summer. I have another guy that is real good and cheap but he also works for Haliburton so I cant ever get with him. He worked on it a bit this summer but its still a no go. And I cant afford a new bolt and go no go gauges and then to have it reheadspaced if its off so....

If you are ever able to get a replacement bolt for your gun, I'll headspace it for you and do any corrections needed, at no charge to you...
