Is that a M16A1? In 2003?

it does not look to have a brass defector on the side. Whatever it is, SMS needs to clean it.

Original Colt USAF 604 profile M-16. Our armory was actually converted to A2s while we were deployed. Turned those in when we got home and they got converted as well.

The parts that needed to be clean were clean lol. Didn’t care about keeping the ever present dust and dirt off the outside...I hadn’t had a proper shower in about a month at that point lol.

Naw, that ain’t dirty. That’s one of the very first “battle worn” finishes ever.

(The story I heard was the USAF guy’s would cerakote their weapons for photo ops so people back home would think they actually used them) [emoji23]

I was issued the same rifle. They always told us that the Air Force didn’t need forward assist cause we kept our weapons clean.
