Seed catalogs are coming. No time like the present, so ...

I have blackberry bushes that did pretty good last year. Expect that to repeat.

Had one fig tree survive out of the 2 I planted. Think I need to take some cuttings and root them and see if I can get a couple, three more going. Got some figs off it but not many. Hopefully now that the root system is more developed it will put on more figs.

My asparagus should give me some stalks this year.

Nanking cherries didn't make last year. Hopefully this year will be an improvement.

Probably do some okra this year, along with tomatoes and cucumbers and green beans.

What are you guys doing this year?

Ohhhh, I forgot. I have a couple of dwarf cherry trees that I heeled in and then never moved. I gotta do that this spring. Hopefully I'll get some cherries in a couple of years.

I'm not sure how well they do here but I wanna try some artichokes.

In case you can't tell I'm really, really interested in perennial crops. Lol

I think we are going to do something different this year, like raised beds. I'm getting tired of wrestling that big arse tiller and then using a little tiny cultivator thingy later. It's what I would imagine holding on a greased chihuahua on crack would be like. Lil sucker messed up my back last year. Raised beds has to be easier to control, and it can't have anything to do with me getting old either.

I'm in my 20 something years of the asparagus bed. Another year of giving away gallon bags of the stuff. Love it, but a person can only find so many ways to cook it.
Planted bunching onions in a big croc flower pot last year so I could go out and pick one or two when needed, but the wild turkey have taken a liking for the tops, so that was a big flop.
In about 3 weeks, I'll get some seeds in peat pots and in the little atwoods greenhouse and start them growing.
Tomato's, bell and jalepeno peppers, yellow squash, cucumbers and maybe some watermelon seeds.

I use the landscape cloth laid out in the garden. Punch holes in it to put plants in. My third year with no weeding, no tilling. Liquid fertilizer.
Some grass weeds will blow in from the mower or the wind and will start on top, but I spray it with Fertilome Over the Top spray to kill the grasses. Won't affect the garden plants as it only kills narrow leaf and not broad leaf plants.

Oh man, I'm going to have to find out more about that. That sounds like the ticket! Is it expensive to get into? Any special requirements?

I got mine in a fall clearance. Cheap stuff from Dollar General. Got 5 rolls for $5 per roll. Probably need replaced next year.
Roll is 3' wide and 50' long. I lapped the rows over about 6".
You can go online and look at the different quality levels. My buddy has a HUGE garden and bought some rolls that were 5' wide and about three times thicker than mine. He is planning on putting it down and it lasting for 10 years or more.
You can even put some straw on top to help conserve the ground moisture and prevent weeds naturally. I water with soaker hoses so in the hot summer the area between the plants get no water which also helps slow down errant seeds from germinating.
I like maintenance free gardens.
