Didn't need it, but certainly did want it

Well, i finally gave in and picked up a knife that i had been looking at for a while. Debated several alternatives but kept coming back to the spyderco paramilitary 2.

So far i can say that it's big, deploys well and will take some time to get used to the compression lock (muscle memory keeps wanting to hit the frame/liner lock on the underside).

I'm a bit concerned about how the g-10 will shred my pocket. I'm also considering replacing the standard pocket clip with a titanium deep carry one.

I like it overall. I did put a deep carry clip on it and now i like it a lot more than i did. It just fits better into my pocket than it did with the stock clip.

That said, i don't know if it will be my favorite knife. I think it will be good for days when i know i'm going to need the big handle and grip. But for my EDC it carries bigger than i want it to for what i'm doing. I am definitely gravitating towards the thinner, lighter knives with big blades (manix 2 lightweight, kershaw knockout). I've got a sage 3 i like, so i might have to look at the sage 5 (which was the other knife i considered along with the PM2).

none of these are issues with the quality of the knife, though. The PM2 rocks in that regard. The compression lock is nice, but i've never been one to really worry about a liner lock, so the compression lock is more of a novelty than a game-changer for me.

I like the pm2 if I am wearing certain jeans.Several pair of jeans that I have now seem to have front pockets that aren't very deep.I have found that a benchmade mini griptillian fits a lot better in jeans with small pockets. If I wear slacks the Kershaw leek is a thin knife. The leeks blade is a little thin for doing hand to paw combat with a bear.

The PM2 is a great knife and well built for tougher tasks than I've thrown at it. However, it takes up a lot of space in the pocket and just seems bulky, so for those reasons I don't carry it very often.
If pocket space isn't an issue, you'll find it's an excellent slicer due to the full flat grind blade and the ability to choke up works well on detail cutting tasks.

That is pretty much how i feel. It's great, but carries bigger than i'll want to have on me all the time. I like the blade shape, which is why i have several sypdercos. I also like the finger choice present on a lot of them for the reason you mentioned. They really fit well in hand for peeling an apple!

I'd probably carry my delica 4 more if it didn't have the lock back (which is hard to close one handed). I even find carrying my manix 2 easier in some ways, and that is a big knife, too.

The Manix 2 is a really great knife as well. I had one of the older heavier models that had a hollow grind. I ended up selling it because of how much pocket space it took up and the slicing just wasn't that great with that hollow grind.
I may pick up another someday, but it'll be the lightweight with full flat grind.

i love the manix 2 lightweight. It actually carries pretty well in my summer shorts (better than in my jeans, tbh). Big blade, light, reasonably good pocket clip. Only things i don't like are the width (could be rounded a bit better i think) and the metal has been prone to rust in humid MS
