Bond Arms Bullpup, and their Derringers...

I have never been into the derringer thing, although I used to own one that was given to me as a gift many years ago and that was in a gun safe that was stolen about 13-14 years ago ( they tore out/pried up and out and took the whole dang safe right out of my house in broad daylight). It had to be at least two strong men and a boy working hard to get that sumbitzz outta there, but they darn sure did it. Anyway, for some reason, I was looking at the Bond Arms Website...and they now do a reincarnation of the Boberg Bullpup Pistol, and allegedly, it is a much improved version. The derringers they make do look pretty cool, and very well made, but to me they seem impractical as a serious self defense handgun what with a whopping two-shot capability and an exorbitant price tag. So what's up with them? Does anyone here actually own one of these? Do you carry it? Use it as a car gun, a bedside gun? What's the deal here? I think it would be kind of cool to have one, but just as a curiosity/ and for the cool factor thing, as far as I'm concerned ...but they may trip somebody's trigger. And being an open minded kind of guy, I'm up to hearing some more about them. So how about sharing the scoop on these things, or the Bullpup, if you have one.

All I can tell you is that the derringers sell real well....... Especially the ones that come with their own leather holster....... Very good sellers.

Now as for the new Bullpup,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I think they will regret that one! They should stick to making the worlds best derringers!

Do you work at a LGS that carries these? I have never even looked at these anywhere. I think I would like to though. They just look...solid. Yeah; they look solid.

No, I sell at Gun Shows (Dan's Guns).........

They are vey solid,,,,,,,,, a little heavy, but solid. The barrels all interchange and you can shoot different calibers......... Made down in Granbury, TX. They have a decent website also.

The Boberg is a great little pistol. I own 3 of them. The improvements Bond made will help with some things but they were good to go anyway. I love the 9mm version as a carry weapon.

Not a bad buy depending on model........The 3" barrels with holster (Ranger II) I sell for north of $600!

I bought a Davis Derringer at a gun show once in .38 special. That thing with its 2.5" barrel would only dent the side of a 55 gallon drum with standard ammo. It wasn't rated for +P, so didn't go there.
A .22 rimfire will go through both sides of the same drum from a 6" barrel.
I traded the same .38 derringer to another guy at a gun show that had a .22 mag Davis.
Took it home and it would penetrate one side of the barrel and not the back side. Only dented it.
One of our members questioned if a .22 mag in a derringer might be an OK CC weapon.
So, I got the chronograph out and ran some rounds through it. The rifle velocity was 2300 fps. The same rounds through the Chrono in the derringer was 900 fps at best. I stuck a .22 LR in there and got 910fps.
The .22 mag is designed for rifles, not pistols. The powder charge doesn't have time to burn in short barreled guns.
I Still have the .22 mag Davis, and it's only a safe queen. I'd NEVER consider a derringer as a CC weapon to defend myself with.
I will say one of my buddies has one of the NAA 4 shot .22 mag pistols in a tiny little holster he carries on his belt for OC.
Its cute, and worn for BBQ purposes only.

I have a Bond in .45LC. I've had it for ~15 years. They are VERY solidly built and heavy. I don't shoot it a lot but it makes a great tackle box gun load with .410 shot shells. Did I mention I don't like snakes? I don't typically carry it as a self defense weapon due to the capacity but in a pinch wouldn't hesitate to do so and have on a couple occasions.

Interesting fact - all their factory holsters are/were made in Colbert, OK at Leather Guns and Etc. (Bill Weaver).

Edit: Everyone I know that has bought one new and later sold it got just about the the same price as when they bought it. A couple even got more than they paid new.

Yes, your correct on the leather guys in Colbert....... They set up sometimes at the Durant Choctaw Casino show. They said they have about all the work they want being Bond Arms exclusive holster maker. Let me tell you, their leather work on those holsters is first class---and many times it is what sells the gun!!
