I have the DVD set, but due to my hearing, and a combination of these damned HDMI connections and a probably defective flat-screen TV, I am not able to get Closed Captioning from my DVD's anymore.

The blue ray has English SDH subtitles so I can watch the series and follow the dialogue and get what is happening.

I love this series, even if I don't really care for HBO.

I am a happy camper.

i'm surprised the dvd doesn't have subtitles, most do
It does--Spanish. When it (my DVD) was made, most disc players could display CC but now, even though my flat screen has them turned on for TV reception, thanks to this HDMI connection, CC is no longer working. Theoretically CC supposed to be able to display through the the AV connection, but none of the players I have had do. I strongly suspect that something is wrong with the AV thing on my flat screen.

This is something that I really have to watch for when I get video discs.

Love the Band of Brothers series. Just re-watched the documentary We Stand Alone together last week. The Blu Ray adds some cool features.

My home is about 10 miles from Currahee Mountain. The 506th PIR was an experimental airborne regiment created in 1942 at Camp Toccoa, Georgia. E Company missions were to involve being parachuted from C-47 transport airplanes into hostile territory. Three miles up, three miles back as they ran up and down Currahee Mountain for one of their conditioning drills. Currahee is a mountain located in Stephens County, Georgia, near Toccoa. Currahee means Stand Alone. It's a mountain that separated from the Appalachian Mountains. When they jumped out of their planes, they would holler Currahee instead of Geronimo. Recently, I ran into an old man in Lawton who knew a lot about Camp Toccoa. While I was pumping gas at Sam's, he noticed my Georgia tag and asked me if I was from around Toccoa. I really wished we had more time to talk about what he knew.

The HBO series “The Pacific” was really good too.
Agreed. I have it on DVD. It came with English SDH subtitles.

One thing that Tom Hanks (one of the producers of both series) said rather irritated me. It was that racism played a major place in the war in the Pacific. I wish he hadn't said that, but it didn't stop me from enjoying either series.

Why do these Hollywood types always seem to rag on Americans?
