That's on them. He certainly has the opportunity to be set for life, anyway.

Just out of curiosity, how do salary negotiations work in conjunction with the draft? What if the No. 1 draft pick doesn't like the offer on the table?

My understanding is the days of fat rookie contracts are a thing of the past (courtesy of bust contracts like Sam Bradford’s). The NFL players association’s collective bargaining agreement with the nfl has prescribed value based on position, draft order etc for rookie contracts.

Dunno man $55,178,850 seems pretty damn fat to me...
Edit: The 32 mil may include the signing bonus. Either way that's pretty rich.
The first round of the 2018 NFL draft has come to a conclusion, and we can now begin to project the salaries for this year's crop of rookies. In a night with few surprises, the biggest winner was without question Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick, who will earn approximately $32,993,327 over his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a $22,185,523 signing bonus.

The Browns have a history of poor first round picks, but not because the picks themselves were bad. It's like the old saw - put a cup of wine in a barrel of crap and you get a barrel of crap; put a cup of crap in a barrel of wine and you get a barrel of crap.
I believe Mayfield is the real deal, but if they surround him with crap, he will look like crap.

I'm reading the Colts finally drafted some offensive linemen...that they have needed for years. Thats a good sign from this Colts fan. Protect that stud of a QB and maybe he will be able to do what he's paid to instead of running for his life and being the most sacked QB in the league.
