They were cool...in 1890. Why go with a revolver when there are so many better choices. If you shoot a revolver better...more power to you. But if you need that reload and you're not Jerry Mickulek ...you are in trouble.

I will maintain that if you have to reload as an individual in a gun fight, you're already in serious trouble. I carry autos, but for those that shoot a revolver well, I don't see why they wouldn't be relevant. Get rounds on target, take cover (or at least move!), reload if necessary.

Experienced pistol shooters using moon clips can make a reload pretty darned quick.

yeah but thats in competition, and thats without return fire

Yep. The fastest way to reload a revo is to throw it down and grab another gun. I generally don't carry two, so that explains why I carry a higher capacity auto.

Having shot them for nearly fifty years, and carried them a good portion of that time, I can safely say that I am better with a wheel-gun than I am any other type of handgun.

Until they figured out no one shoots revolvers anymore...

Why ? Cause this younger generation is incapable of hitting the target with anything less than 15-17 rounds? Or is it that all the slack wrist youngsters can't hold up all that cold steel long enough to aquire a sight pic?:boxing3::mosh::cool:

I would have to say if you are in a situation where you actually need 17 rounds you are prolly somewhere you should not have been in the first place. If you have more that 2 assailants shooting at you, I would venture to say that you are screwed. Keeping track of 2 people would be fubar , 3 or more under live fire in a self defense scenario, your dead before you fire six bullets.

Agreed, for anyone who is practiced and proficient with a revolver, you are at a minimal disadvantage when reloading as long as you are using a speed loading device...especially moon clips. It is all muscle memory, just like with an auto loader. The main disadvantage is capacity as you and others have noted.

Quite so. I am a dedicated revolver person and I concede the capacity advantage is with autos.

But.....all the gun fights I seen in the movies.......you shoot all 13 boolits out of your six-shooter, then there is kinda a break in the gunfight to reload. Like hide behind the water trough and reload. Never seen anyone get killed while they were hunkered down reloading.
