Dennis,
I was thinking about taking my grandson to Little Sahara to learn about his new quad, it is a Yamaha raptor 350. I figure an 11 year old riding something that will go 70mph, the sand might be the best place to ride. He has had a Polaris outlaw 90cc for the past few years.
I assume you have to have a flag, am I correct? Also, are there many people there on weekdays?

I was there with my ex BIL a couple weeks ago that has a 700 raptor. Insanely fast.
What I'm going to tell you should be taken to the bank.
First timers to Little Sahara should go out the gates with a huge amount of caution.
The south gate has a dip to the north that has ate a lot of off roaders when going out at night. You don't see it until your on it and you Tbone the other side if going too fast. It isn't pretty.
Heading out the South gate, you can be blasting across the dunes and come up on buttercup on the back side. Several have been killed there because it looks like level sand until you go over the top. 100' fall.

The south entrance has great dunes. The east side of that entrance in the brush is blow sand and is tough to ride. Get stuck pretty easy, but once one learns the sand, you can use it as a challenge.

Just go out for a couple of hours and ride the perimeter, then explore the big dunes after the kid gets some experience going up and down the smaller ones, trying a good one, then a great one, then buttercup......

Helmets and goggles are not required, although after 10 minutes on a windy day, you will go to the dune equipment shop and buy some no matter how much it costs.
Save some money and buy online before going.
You must have a flag and pole on the ATV. They sell them in town and at the dunes. Same price. Same person makes them.
During the week, you pretty much have the place to yourself. Maybe a dozen others. On weekends, it's busy and on holiday weekends it's insane. Maybe 2000-3000 folks in attendance from all over the country. $100,00.00 + buggy's that can jump from dune to dune all over and putting on shows.
I've heard that Little Sahara supports most of the other state parks in Ok because of the volume of paying visitors.

If your interested, let me know when your going. I'll bring my rides and give a tour if nothing else is going on. I'm 1 hour and 45 minutes away from the gate. Have a vintage 3 wheeler, and a 4 wheeler.
