Does anyone know much about buying precious metals? I've been thinking about buying gold or silver lately in order to protect my money from inflation, but not been too sure about it. Is there a place you visit to buy gold/silver? Is it a mail order thing? Do you just hang on to it or do you purchase gold/silver stock instead? I have around 10k I'm saving for a down payment on a house in a couple years, so should I put all of it towards gold/silver or just around half or so?

I bought some gold and silver coins through an introductory price, one time. It was hard to find a buyer to turn it back into cash, especially at a minor profit. The only reason for my profit was that I bought at the introductory price. The stocks / certificates might be more liquid than physical coins / bars. The only metal I'm buying in the future is lead - much easier to turn back into cash.

I buy gold and silver at the "coin and gold exchange", its a small shop on north may, they have a decent selection of coins and gold and silver bullion. the prices are pretty good, the last time I was in there, about a week ago, their prices were better than what I found on ebay. he charges a little over spot price and usually buys for a little under spot price. of course silver and gold prices go up and down so there is where you make or lose your money. their number is 405-753-4473 and jon is the main guy to deal with
