On the pricey side but a set of five would be really cool for a competition like steel challenge. But it gives me an idea on something that could easily be added to some plates to make something similar for a lot less.
That's putting it mildly!!!!

That said, they seem to be a fairly new idea, and they might come down in price as more of them are produced.

LOL, yeah but the concept is simple enough. I would think of an arduino board with a shock sensor on the back of a plate with some way of putting a single light nearby the plate and you could at the very least set something that would show when there was a positive hit. Would be really nice when you are first starting and not very confident on the hits. Linking them together is something else that can be done easily enough as well. Possibly do so with another board acting as a controller. The random hit game would be fun with friends as well. Use a tri color led and have a plate randomly light up red to be shot at and then turn and stay green when hit and another light up at random until 5 plates are all hit and then have a time given. Then the next person has to try and beat the time. But seeing someone else build a device of that nature just plants the idea on how you could do something similar.
